Summary Thoughts of Mel Jurado
The opportunity to connect with
women from all over the country was phenomenal. I wish there had been
even more networking opportunities with fellow Public Service Series
participants, but there was nothing on the remainder of our agenda I
would have wanted shortened or deleted.
The briefing on Wednesday morning
was a great highlight. To have an opportunity to hear from our nation’s
key leaders, and be with them in such an intimate setting, illustrates
the level of respect they hold for the Public Service Series. It was
incredible that we had an audience with: Sara Taylor, Deputy Campaign
Strategist, from the Office of Political Affairs; Al Hubbard, Economic
Advisory; Michael Chertoff, our new Secretary Homeland Security; and,
Elaine Chow, Secretary of Labor.
Action: During this past week,
it was very easy to give an impassioned pitch of our series at both
our county’s Lincoln Day Dinner and at our Federated Women’s
Meeting. There is a great value in this Series and we owe it to those
who have facilitated our series development to actively promote the
series to women who desire to grow their leadership skills and serve
in public office.
